Neighborhood
THEN The Shuler Mine opened in Waukee in 1921 and employed close to 500 men. The area of the mine, taken from a blueprint in 1947, stretched approximately 1.25 miles wide and 3.75 miles long. The outline of the mine is overlaid on a present-day map and reaches south of Douglas Parkway to north of Waterford Road. Just down the street from the legendary Alice’s Spaghetti Land, W ave. is Locally known as Alices Road. Now meets directly with interstate 80. NOW- Waukee is ever growing but still has the small town charm that is so easy to love. Some of my favorite places are: Locally owned Mickey's Irish Pub for some great food and nightlife (hogwild is a must) Family friendly through dinner, Johnny and Nick's Steakhouse for a date night, Centennial Park for all season if you are here in the winter ice skating is fun otherwise there is normally something going on there, Bike and walking paths a stones throw away, Imax theater, or bowling!
